Last week, we joined our final teams for the Race. Our leadership empowered us to have a say in choosing our own teams and creating and stepping into our own roles. That was super intimidating, but wow, I can already see so much fruit from it.
To announce new teams, our leadership crew sorted us into our four teams Harry-Potter-sorting-hat style. I’ve wanted teams to be announced this way since Botswana (month 4) so man, I was excited! They gave us Harry Potter-inspired names (which they expected us to change), and our team was dubbed Baby Aslan (a tribute to Narnia and the Gryffindor house of HP).
Everyone changed from their HP names (which I’m bummed about, because I loved the Sneaky Snakes) except for us. As a bunch of Narnia and Harry Potter fans, it honestly resonated and we’re excited about it.
So, I want to take this post to introduce you to my team!
Here’s our vision: To empower and edify one another as lionesses (yeah, that word makes us uncomfortable, too, but we’re standing by it) by stepping into new gifts, sharing and teaching the Lord’s passions in us, and resting in the bravery that comes from the Lord when he calls us to the unknown and unsafe for the sake of the Kingdom.
And here we are!!!
[I would post a photo of us here, but I can’t figure out how to do it from my phone. I’ll try again later!]
Shelby • I’ve been praying to be on a team with Shelby since month one and I’m so excited to serve alongside her as she grows in the gift of shepherding. She rocks and has been such an encourager. She’s our team leader and I am so grateful!
Sarah Hickman • one of my favorite humans in the whole world – Sarah shows me grace and mercy every single day. She’s going to keep us accountable to study the Word together throughout the week!
Julia • As our team’s intercessor, Julia has already shown me so much about praying bold prayers. She’s so funny and is teaching me about what it looks like to be open and vulnerable for the sake of building others up.
Mantha • She and I joked months before the Race about how they’d never put us together – and now here we are!! Mantha consistently points back to truth in Scripture and I’m so excited to learn from her. Also, she’s our treasurer and serves us in that way with so much confidence and joy.
Alison • Man, Al Pal is such a gem. She shows us all that the Lord delights in us and that it’s okay to laugh at ourselves. She is genuine and real and I’m so excited to get to serve with her!
Laiken • We’ve said “bye” to each other so many times at this point, but the Lord keeps putting us together! I’ve learned from her patience, kindness, and goodness every single day for about 250 days now. She’s going to be story leader for this team and I’m stoked!
Me • I’m super grateful to be co-leading with Shelby in the administrative/logistic side of things! I know I’m going to grow so much in this team and learn a lot about mercy and grace from these women. I’m thankful I get this community in the final 2-1/2 months of the Race as I prepare to readjust to life at home!
