Hey everyone!
As most of you know, I’m spending this month in the Dominican Republic. My primary ministry this month is hanging out with a 13-year-old named Starr. We get to have Bible studies (II Corinthians has been our favorite), try to navigate Algebra I, make soap, hang out in the community, practice calligraphy, and just do life together. I’m beyond thankful for this ministry. It can be hard at times to be away from the rest of my team when they’re out doing manual labor or teaching in the community, but I know the Lord gave me this opportunity and it brings me SO much joy. For the first few days I was here in the DR, Starr and her sisters were in the hospital. When Starr got back, I started spending time with her as she recovered. Our first few days consisted of a lot of me reading to her (like hours and hours of Sir Rowan) and trying to get her to drink Gatorade, but she regained strength so quickly. God has been so faithful to restore her health – please continue praying for complete healing for her.
I’ve enjoyed my time with Starr so much. She’s wise, funny, and sassy, and basically the coolest kid around. She’s taught me so much about what it means to trust the Lord through difficult circumstances and the joy brought through Lay’s Queso Blanco chips.
For the Race, my goal is to share an interview video with you all in every month. This month, I got to talk to Starr about her recent experience with sickness, being in the hospital, and the physical and spiritual battles that brought for her. She’s an amazing human with inspirational faith – I hope you enjoy her story (and this photo of us).
