As I sit here, I start to observe my squad mates that I am with this month. They are all laughing, eating dinner, and having a fantastic time with each other. Then I start to think, “I’m so happy to do community with these wonderful ladies and 2 men.” I literally couldn’t ask for a better group this month.
I’m gonna share how community looks like with the rest of y’all! Hang on tight and enjoy the ride!
Altogether we have 20 people in this stacked apartment style home. Only 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 dining rooms, 2 living rooms, and 5 bedrooms. We also have a balcony on the second level of the apartment. (Very nice during the day because there is usually a lot of breeze coming through). It is a little cramped but so far we have been making it work really well. Then we have 2 to 4 ministry staff members making breakfast, lunch, and dinner for us EVERY SINGLE DAY! They are even doing our laundry every 5 days! Which is completely awesome because it wasn’t like that in past months. So we are all blessed and thankful to have that this month. (I know I am).
So you’re probably wondering, how did we decide to split up rooms and which people should go in them?
Well we decided to do it by teams. There are three teams altogether. One team is in one big room all together and the other teams, including my own, had to split up. I am sharing a bathroom with 5 other ladies, not including myself; AKA 6 total! Then 4 of those ladies share the bedroom together. Myself and a squad mate have decided to put up our tents on the balcony. We can only use our air conditioning for 2 hours a night so I have decided to move outside to get fresh air while I sleep. It has been surprisingly pleasant.
We have all been very good at letting our squad mates have their quiet time. Since there are so many of us, it’s kinda hard to find a place to have quiet time but we have been respectful of others when they are having quiet time with the Lord.
Community is sharing a bathroom when you don’t want too. Community is hearing a person laugh through the walls at the crack of dawn or at 10 o’clock at night. Community is hearing that creaky door open at 6 o’clock in the morning when you’re sleeping. Community is having to share a bed with your squad mate.
Honestly, I have loved every single minute of community this month. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I have had wonderful conversations with these ladies so far this month. I’ve been getting to know my squad mates a little bit better and I love that.
We have enjoyed being together again and doing ministry this month. We have been doing pastoral classes, teaching, preaching, Sunday school, and evangelizing in villages. We have been busy so far but we love what we are doing for the Kingdom of God! All Glory to God!
