It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post. Lately, it’s like every time I catch an idea I’ll sit down to start writing it and the words won’t come. Like they just disappear right before my eyes. But it’s so important to me to share my journey with all of you, through the next 7 months leading up to my launch and the 11 months while I’m gone. My real, honest, true journey. And sometimes, it won’t start off beautiful and inspiring. There will be parts of brokenness, messy and raw and real. But that’s okay, because the brokenness allows for the opportunity for healing. Beautiful, loving, inspiring healing from our Lord and savior. And our Lord is the greatest, mightiest healer of them all. That’s where the beauty can always and will always be found. He can heal all brokenness, even the brokenness our worldly doctors wouldn’t even be able to diagnose. “He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
The past month or so I have found myself in a season of brokenness. I usually don’t like to share this kind of thing with people. But recently I’ve started to realize how important it is to share your broken pieces with others. When you share your brokenness with others, you also get the opportunity to share God’s healing with them. So, I’ve decided to share this with you all to give glory to God for once again finding me in broken pieces and lovingly putting me back together, celebrating each and every victory. He never fails. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 3:16
Something I have struggled with is trusting the people around me. When I was younger, I had people I called friends hurt me and betray my trust in big, heart-breaking ways. And as a result, I stopped trusting people as easily, or at all. If you’ve ever struggled with something like this yourself, you know that every step you take in the right direction, no matter how big or small, seems like a milestone worth celebrating. Sometimes the smallest step can seem like the biggest milestone. Unfortunately, the people around us don’t always see our small steps as huge milestones. You may look up with a huge smile on your face, ready to celebrate with the people you love, just to have them point out how far you still have to go.
That’s where I found myself during the last month of 2017. Over the entirety of the year, I had taken many steps in the right direction. Some small, others larger. But every step was something worth celebrating to me. And when I found myself in the midst of people who, instead of celebrating, pointed towards the finish line saying “look, you still have a long way to go…” I felt suddenly…tired. And for a little while, I allowed that tiredness to consume me and stop all the progress I had made.
Here’s the thing though, those small steps I’ve been taking in the right direction? I’m not the only one who noticed. I’m not the only one who wanted to celebrate. Jesus noticed, and He has been smiling down at me waiting for me to turn my face back to Him. He has been looking down, waiting patiently for me to look back. He has been waiting to celebrate with me, to tell me to not give up now, to remind me of how far I’ve come.
Whenever you feel alone, whenever you feel like there’s no one around to celebrate the small victories with you, Jesus is there. He wants to celebrate with you. He wants to cheer you on. He wants you to come to Him and celebrate with Him. And even more than that, He wants to help you to the finish line. And you can’t make it there without Him. He wants to help you keep moving forward, however small your steps may be. He has been there the whole time, from the starting line, and He will be there until the very end. He will celebrate every victory, no matter how big or small, with you. You just have to open your eyes and your heart to Him, allow His love, His support, His caring, His guidance to wash over you. When you feel tired and alone, look to Him. He’ll celebrate your victories, and then He’ll help you take another, even bigger step forward. “What, then, shall we say in response to these things. If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
