After a month of being in one country on the mission field, we as a squad typically will meet up to debrief for about 4 days before going to the next country. Being we are not all together all month as a squad (we have teams of about 6), other people on the squad oftentimes ask, “How would you describe your month in one word?” This month I just couldn’t do one word to explain, and it was this: “Drinking through a water hose.”
Nepal was a crazy one, full of change in locations and ministry. Long, long bus rides multiple times in the month. We stayed in a remote village in Chitwan National Park for 10 days, walked for hours on long dirt trails to evangelize to witch doctors. We walked around Hindu temples and prayed for the people. We trekked in the Himalayas and attracted an uncomfortable amount of leeches on our legs. We went to a leprosy colony and prayed for the people with missing toes and hands.
I truly cannot even begin to explain how incredibly hard and rewarding this month was. It was hard, yes. But it was so crazy good. I love moving around and changing the environment, and this month was the perfect example of That. It was a bit hectic, but it was so good. It stretched me beyond my comfortability.
There were times I wanted to quit, but then came moments that made me realize why I never would. The times when I’d just stop trekking and look in awe at God’s creation and how He didn’t just make it all the same for us. He created it all so vastly different and I love that about Him. He is a creative God.
The witch doctor that heard the Gospel for the first time in his life. How intently he listened to us, even though he didn’t accept right then and there I fully believe that the Holy Spirit is working in him. Or the woman who had leprosy at one point in her life and was an outcast in society, being able to sit and hear her story.
These moments, along with many more, made my crazy hectic month all worth it.
Until next time, Nepal <3
