What is the World Race? Good question, I’m still figuring that out. All I know is that it’s so different than what I expected.
The World Race is a lot of community. It’s hard. It’s late night feedback and early morning laughter. It’s having your whole team in a coffee shop but no one talking because it’s the only time you get alone. It’s pure sisterhood solely based on the Lord. It’s wanting each other to grow just as much as they do and acting on that. WR community, it’s hard, but it’s so worth it.
WR is learning how to make missions a lifestyle. Treating the cashew boy and his grandfather to dinner at debrief, buying medicine for the woman at our bus stop, and becoming best friends with our chicken bus guys. It’s learning how to cook in a woman’s house at ten in the morning, trying to teach her how to say potato. I’m telling you, the t’s really get them.
WR is learning so much about the Lord’s character. Learning how to truly hear His voice and walk in obedience even when it’s so uncomfortable. Seeing the fruit that’s being produced, building relationships with people that we met solely because God took us there, and seeing knew parts of Jesus because of how He shows in others.
But behind the scenes, the stuff that doesn’t go on instagram, it’s just as real. Half the squad getting lice and having a train of lice checks, that’s what this life is. Parasites and salmonella and spending too much time in the bathroom, it’s normal here. Airdropping notes to each other because it’s the closest thing to texting that we have during the week. Bad hair days every day of the week and rewearing the same outfit more than a few times before you wash it, it’s really not that gross. But I swear to you, it’s great. It’s uncomfortable and it’s stretching and everything is just funny. Really funny. And it really brings a team together.
The WR, it’s not boujee, but it’s a good time.
