Supporters, thank you so much for taking the time to read my blogs. I am so grateful for you all and for your support which allows me to be serving the Lord here in South Africa. Here is a little update on where I have been and what I have been up to over the past month:
On October 5th my squad and I left on a bus from Jeffrey’s Bay. After 20 hours of travel we made it to Pretoria for debrief. At debrief, we spent five days together as a squad reflecting on our first month and preparing and resting for our next few months of ministry. On the 15th the two teams I am leading headed to Johannesburg where we will be serving with Impact Africa for the next two months. At Impact the majority of our time will be spent evangelizing in squatter camps.
Squatter camps are informal settlements where people from all over South Africa and surrounding nations like Zimbabwe and Malawi come to live while searching for jobs in Johannesburg. Squatter camps are densely populated, and although Johannesburg is a large city with lots of opportunity, there are not enough opportunities to provide for all the people that are pouring in searching for jobs. In these communities, it is not uncommon for the people to pray to their ancestors for help and seek healing from witch doctors called sangomas. We get to bring hope to the people by sharing about the power and love of God.
Our first week and a half at Impact was actually spent doing outreach in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa away from the Impact base. During our time in Pietermaritzburg, we went to 14 different school assemblies and 3 different churches ministering to them through skits, dancing, testimonies, and through teaching and preaching. The people in South Africa have been so welcoming and open to us, and they are so receptive to the Good News that we have the honor to share with them.
We are now back in Johannesburg at Impact where we have spent the last few days evangelizing in the squatter camps. In the 3 days we have been in the squatter camps, we have already seen the power and love of God displayed in people’s lives through salvation, healing, and deliverance, and I am so expectant for the Lord to continue to move within these communities over the next month.
