When I get creative, I always have a vision for the end goal. I may not know exactly what it is, but I know exactly what it isn’t. For that reason, I like to take projects into my own hands and bring what I have in mind to life. Sometimes I trust people to help me, but as soon as something feels off, I throw a fit and feel the need to start over.
I recently collaborated with Fund the Nations, asking the organization to help me design and produce my World Race fundraising T-Shirt. I gave one of the designers a few lines I had in mind, described a few details I hoped to see on it, and told the designer to get creative and create a design that will stand out from the rest. Two days later, I received an email from Fund the Nations and excitedly jumped to see what the product was. Unfortunately my mood dropped from 100 to 0 in a second. I did not like what I saw, from the color of the shirt to the design itself. “This is not me,” I thought. “No, no, no, this is not what I want.”
I sat back and thought to myself “What do I want?” I decided that the best way to describe what I wanted was to create what I wanted. I began my research on t-shirt designs and previous works hoping to find inspiration. I opened the program I often use to design graphics and began to play around. I came up with some cool graphics, but when I tried to envision them on a shirt, it just didn’t seem right. I’m used to designing flyers, websites, programs and such, but not t-shirts are not my expertise. Still I pressed on, refusing to put my laptop down ‘til I was satisfied.
Finally, the picture came to mind. I was reminded of my graduation cap, which said, “The World is my Campus, and God is my Pilot.” In a case such as this, thinking of all the places I’ll go and how I am to get there, I look to God for direction. With Mark 16:15 in mind, I put my tools to work. I looked at my design, smiled, had a moment of thanksgiving, and peacefully sent myself to sleep.
The following day, I sent the design to Fund the Nations to polish, this time with a specific shirt type and color request. Throughout the day, I kept checking my inbox, anxiously waiting to see my work brought to life. A page reloads later, there it was, “Wamweni Shamambo T-Shir Redesign”, in bold letters waiting for me to click on it. I held my breath, clicked on the subject title, scrolled through the message, and quickly opened the attachment. “Wow,” was my first thought. I loved it. Then came doubt, “Will others like it?” However, within 30 minutes, I received reassurance from three of my friends, in turn lifting my spirits.
I shared my design with them, and now I’m glad to share it with you. I hope you love it like I do and can brighten up to your closet while supporting my mission. Six designs later, here is the final product! Feel free to buy one for every day of the week. Goal is to sell 25 by August 12. So please share, share, share.
Take note before ordering:
-
This is a Next Level tri-blend, so it is super soft and comfortable! However, it is a tad less generous of a fit than a normal t-shirt. So if you’re inbetween two sizes, I would recomment choosing the larger.
-
Available sizes are XS-4XL. 2XL-4XL are $2 more per shirt. Shirts are also available in youth-size, but a different fun color.
-
Shirts can be ordered directly through me, in person or email ([email protected]), and are also available for online purchase @http://dwsworldrace.bigcartel.com
-
All orders are due August 11 as I will be submitting one large order to Fund the Nations on the 13th.
Thanks to everyone who has been encouraging and supporting me thus far. Keep me in your prayers, for I have a long way to go. If you’re interested in other shirt designs I’ve created, visit my JLU (Jesus Loves You) storefront at https://teespring.com/stores/jlu
