Good, what does good really mean?
When asked how my trip was, does good sum it up?
When asked how I am doing being home? It’s good.
When asked about seeing people? It has been really good.
When asked about how I am feeling? Minus my cough, good.
Good, really good, great. This word sums up a lot in 4 letters. It means- well; to be desired or approved of; meeting the qualifications of a role; morally right; benefiting to someone or something. This does in a lot of ways sum up my journey. It was good. It was not, as one friend asked, all I had hoped it would be. It was, however, everything that I needed it to be. It was good.
How do I sum up 11 families, ministries, experiences, team moments and just life. When we were preparing to come home I was trying to sort it out but I didn’t have a lot of luck. I have found that my phrase I have been sticking to is that it was good. A largely quoted line in the bible states that God works all things for the good of those who love Him. This is often quoted out of context and just plain wrongly but in the case of my trip it fits perfectly. Things were not how I expected them to be. Some places and people I met or experienced I would not have chosen to or seen myself with before I left and they are the best months or times I grew the most. Certain things I had thought were what I would do on the race I didn’t do, no matter how much I tried to make them happen, but they were not what God had for me in this season. Even fundraising, right up to the last week of ministry, was for my good. God redirected and changed my heart and deepened my understanding of Him in crazy ways. He strengthened my faith and showed me how to see Him more clearly. He worked it all for my good.
Mark 8: 24-30
24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirithimself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedesfor God’s people in accordance with the will of God. 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified
This trip was a blessing. A journey I shared with 30 amazing people and everyone we met along the way. It changed my life and it was good. I won’t let satan belittle it with head games or make me feel ashamed for not having an extravagant explanation or crazy word. I will simply continue to share and love on those around me. Because I am doing good. Spending time with my family and figuring out visits with friends. I don’t know what the future holds just yet but I know God’s got it and He is working it for my good.
Thank you for following, supporting and caring for me on this journey!
