Daily Life in Indonesia:
Our mornings start at 4:40am for the worship service that starts at 5am!! One of us from the world race team teaches a bible study every morning. Around 6:15am we head to the jungle and go get water from the creek! I know it’s wild.. literally! Then we eat breakfast around 7:30am.
My favorite breakfast so far is pan fried bananas for the appetizer, fried rice with a chili sauce (it’s so so good), scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and these chips that kind of taste like pork rind’s. We always have coffee thank goodness and hot water witch is served with every meal.
We usually do our individual bible study before we start teaching. At 9am we start our English class!! Thank goodness for Mia… she was an English teacher back in the states. Most of you know I really struggle with spelling and grammar so having her on our team has been amazing! Around 10:30am-10:45am our class gets out. The students then start their chores and cooking lunch. We eat lunch around 12pm everyday!
My favorite lunch has been a yellow curry chicken over rice! So delicious.
At 2:30pm we head to town to teach an English class for local students! I have the younger group of children. They are so sweet. We always start class with a song and a prayer! When the little one’s sing it is the cutes thing! Any where between 4:30pm- 5pm we head back to campus. (We ride motorcycles everywhere!!) While we are gone the students back on campus either have another class with a guest speaker on agriculture, health care, or theology. If they don’t have a special speaker they work on the gardens or they do construction on the buildings on campus. This week they added a room for a new teacher they have living on campus. Around 5:30pm we have time to just hang with the students. We play volleyball almost everyday!! Its so fun. The guy students are really skilled on the volleyball court… it’s incredible!
Around 7pm we eat dinner! My favorite dinner was a teriyaki chicken over rice with these garlic greens. The dessert was made out of rice flour and something similar to a potato. They wrapped that mixture in some kind of leaf. On the inside of the dessert was a combination of brown sugar, honey, and something that tasted like a date. The texture was very different but the flavor was so good!
Then there is another worship session lead by the students at 8pm. We usually attend the first half of that worship session. The students finish their day anywhere between 9pm and 10pm. Around 9ish we get together as a team and debrief the day!
At 10pm we head to bed!!
Long and beautiful days.
