Our weekend started off on Friday with 14 people headed out into the middle of the desert. Once we arrived on the reservation the two teams split up and we headed out into the middle of the desert to spend the weekend. Our team of 7 spend the weekend with Tata and his wife. They became Christians a mere 10 years ago and never regret that decision.

Herman aka “Tata” who is the son of the last chief of these tribes asked us to pray over the villages from the hilltop looking over the land.

A view looking out over the desert to the east. A beautiful desert land filled with Pumas, Parrots, and massive thorn bushes as far as the eye can see.

The majority of the tribe lives off the land, they raise livestock and everything is built using what the land provides.

What is even better is the food Tata and his wife prepared for us. What we have here is Sheep w/vegetables, salad, and tomatoes in oil with garlic and peppers. They blessed us tremendously with one of their sheep that day.

The view as we drove back to base in a car twice as old as me, driving off into the sunset, with the wind in our hair. It felt as if we were in a movie.

The weekend was perfect all the way until the end. After the movie set feeling of driving off into the sunset, the cars lights went out and we drove home in the dark. Not ideal, but worth it all.

Tata and his wife blessed us with their generosity, they showed us what it looks like to be blessed with the simple things, and we got to bring them joy with our presence. They showed us that God is faithful, provides, and is anywhere and everywhere as long as allow him to show up.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness or your dawn.”
