We started our month in Accra, Ghana (the capitol) with debrief. Debrief is a super awesome 4 days of getting poured into, going to sessions, and resting and rejuvenating so that we can jump full force back into ministry. We worshiped on rooftops, asked The Lord to give us people to impact (or be impacted by), and ate lots of authentic African food.
After debrief, we headed to Sunyani, where we have partnered with a local church. It is all-squad month, so instead of just being with our teams in certain locations, all 35 of us World Racers are together! It’s been incredible. Our schedule is packed, but my team has mostly been doing “ATL” (Ask The Lord). We don’t have a specific ministry set up, so we intentionally pray and listen to the Lord each morning for what we should do or where we should go. Let me tell you, He doesn’t disappoint.
We were led to a school where we got to waltz in and meet the CEO in hopes of doing sports camps. Only the Lord could set this up, because the CEO has been super passionate about teaching the kids physical education. We got to teach the kids skills and play with them in their after-school program. I did photography for it, so I was bombarded with Camera Hams and intrigued tykes.
The Lord also led us to pick up trash one day, and we were super reluctant (well, some of us). We did it anyway, of course, and come to find out, Sunyani is starting a sanitation initiative to clean their city! It was interesting to be a part of because some people would walk by and yell at us to just leave it, but it gave us an opportunity to share our heart and the purpose behind it.
We have met and prayed for countless people, and learned their beautiful stories. It’s pretty special to see the Lord’s love in all different places. Even though our intentions are to help and serve, it is often we who receive inspiration and encouragement from them.
This month, I’ve really learned to confidently walk out the gifts that God has given me to bless His people. I taught children’s ministry, did photography, and am playing the drums for worship. It has been humbling to realize that those gifts are the work of God through me – not mine to shy away from or hide.
