I’m sitting here watching Wonder Woman with my teammates having a bit of a hard time trying to, 1. multitask, and 2. find the words to adequately describe today. Lindsay, Emily, and I had the opportunity to go to an all girls school and do a bible study on Esther 4. This was a long time coming and a passion the Lord has placed on all of our hearts, so when we got the chance today, my expectations were maybe a little unrealistically high. But, per usual, God blew them clear, far, dramatically, out of the water. He showed me that, just like Esther, we are used to make change and empower people for His name.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with who Esther is, she is a woman from a lowly Jewish family who won the king’s favor and became queen. Her people, the Jews, were in turmoil and the Lord called her to save them. There is so much more to Esther, but we felt called to mainly focus on the verse Esther 4:14, “…perhaps you were born for such a time as this.” We wanted these girls to know that though they’re young, though they may not have the most stable home life, maybe they can barely eat every meal because of their parents income or lack there of, the Lord still chooses them to carry out a specific calling in this life. We wanted them to know that they’re more than just the bearer of children in relationships, that they are worth education and knowledge and above all else, the Lord’s unconditional, unfaltering, perfect love.
As Esther grew up to be queen and savior to the Jews, we asked all of the girls to say what they aspired to be when they grow up. One said an environmental scientist, another said to open an orphanage, another to become president. While these are all awesome, it wasn’t the job title that got me about what they were saying, it was the “why” behind it. Chipo wanted to be an environmental scientist because it broke her heart to see people treating God’s creation like it wasn’t one of the most beautiful gifts He’s given us. Natasha didn’t just want to open an orphanage, she wanted to be a chef and a doctor too to truly care for the children she was going to one day take in. To say it was inspiring to see these girls prepared to move mountains for the Lord and make huge waves in this world is a ginormous understatement. It brought so much realization and contentment into my life. It may be from Wonder Woman, or living with two amazing women – Lindsay and Emily – for the last two and a half months, or from today, whatever it may be, I’m feeling like being a woman is the greatest gift the Lord could’ve given me.
P.S.: Happy (late) Thanksgiving!! It’s kind of odd, and frankly a little sad, being so far from home on one of my favorite days that was just last year spent with my huge family, but nonetheless, there is an abundance to be thankful for here in Zim. I’m so incredibly thankful for my team and how quickly they’ve become family, for all my support from back home **huge shoutout to my mom, who allows me to call and tell her anything and everything in between meetings, in the middle of the night, and on Nepal’s very expensive phone plan (sorry, again),** for the Lord’s constant (and needed) grace, and for all the hard things that have placed me right where I’m supposed to be. Blessings on blessings on blessings to everyone today and always.
