Comfort.

It’s a place where we are, we want to be, or want to leave.

Do you ever feel like you’re running against the wind?

Hi.

Yes.

I do.

Me.

A lot of the time actually.

But, I think there’s beauty in that.

Bent over, tying up your tennis shoes to be properly suited for what you’re about to endure.

If you’re against it for a bit, the run seems like cake. Got an email to send, got an errand to run, got a conversation to deal with — Get that blood flowing, break a little sweat. No big deal.

But once your in a long haul—of late night early morning work hours, your newborn cutting your sleep hours short, the decision to get up and move or stay— grinding against that wind, it gets tough. It will get tough.

It’s you against your mind.

Is the wind going to sweep you away? Or is every step you take forward going to be your anchor for your next step?

Where are you going? Why are you going?

You’re going because you won’t settle for the comfort of complacency.

It’s one thing to be comfortable, but it’s another to be complacent. And with being complacent, you’ve abused your comfort.

Comfort in salary, friends, family, hobbies.

Comfort in relationships, laughter, living in the moment. All good things.

You get comfy in complacency? Watch everyone around you go where you want to go.

Your run may not be comfortable, but that is the growth that comes with it. Find comfort in the uncomfort.

Comparing.

Everyone’s run is different. Everyone’s winds blow individually. Everyone’s running shoes are personal. So why do you even stop to think about their run, their wind, and how far along they are?

There is no greater measure that will stop your growth than stopping your own feet because your eyes want the quick fix of being ahead. Because your eyes catch drift of someone else’s run, and you lose focus on your own.

Vision is crucial.

Reality is awakening.

Know what you’re in control of– Your shoes. Your anchored steps. Your mindset.

The wind? That’s your responsibility. Are you willing to fight through it to get to where you can’t see? Or will you let it the wind sit you down in your complacency?

The wind may be strong, but you are stronger.

The path may be long, but you are prepared.

The risk may be intimidating, but the steps forward are so worth it.

You don’t have to run alone.

It also doesn’t have to be a sprint. Some days it’s a jog, or a light walk up against that wind.

Head down, arms pumping, legs barely moving. BUT they are still moving. Moving forward.

Find people who can join your journey.

Find people who are going to run alongside you, and encourage you in all mindsets you go through.

Find people who have similar visions as you do, or can see the goals ahead.

Allow them to keep you accountable.

Company is sweet—if it’s the right company.

God has walked before it. Before your next step. Whether your laces are tied, if you’re sweating from the blazing heat, or if your chest is up— choose to grind through that wind. Everyday looks different.

God is in the unknown.

God is in that next step. Waiting for you to stretch. To groan. To find your grit. All so He can turn the wind to face your back once you’ve walked through the season you were supposed to. That season you never gave up walking through.

All so He can smile on the beauty that you will find against the wind.

All so you can see that the impossible is possible with God surrounding your path.

Comfort.

It’s a place we all want to be, where we are, or want to leave.

Where are you, and where is your next step?

God,

I pray that whoever reads this will receive peace and discernment with their individual path. I pray you know God is purposeful and would never lead you astray. I pray you seek His wisdom and know His grace. God, allow us the eyes to see the blessings even when it’s tough.

Amen.

He knows your heart. He wants to take your burden. He knows your wind. He loves you.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths—Proverbs 3:5-6
