Where do I even begin with this month? This month’s ministry was incredible. Why? Because our ministry host Pat, was on fire for God. He never says no to God. His Holy Spirit heartbeat is beating so fast it’s contagious. He is highly respected in the community and the country. He even received an award from the Princess. His ministry? A little bit of everything. His main ministry and passion is prison ministry. He goes to many prisons throughout the city and shares the Gospel. When we walked into the first juvenile detention center. Many of the boys there stopped what they were doing and waid (a greeting, slight bow). They respected him. Pat gives it to you straight forward. He ain’t afraid to tell you that his God killed thousands and thousands of people in the Old Testament, so you better be on His side. The coolest part of his ministry is what happens after he visits the prisons. He invites the boys that are released to live in his home. Yes this month we lived with ex-cons, murders, rapist, child traffickers, drug dealers etc. Why invited someone into your home? Because if these men didn’t have a Christian home to live in after, they would go back to their old ways of life.
At the farm, the men work to provide for themselves and for the surrounding community. They grow bananas, mangos, limes, and many herbs and vegetables. They raise pig, water buffalo and fish. And all these things are used to help the community and those that need food. As we were uprooted and replanted banana trees, Pat told us that while he works with these men is the perfect opportunity to have great talks and share the Gospel with them.
Pat also has connections in the local schools to help teach English which is a prime opportunity to share the Gospel to the kids.
I honestly could talk forever about this month, but I’m sure you don’t want to read that long of a post.
This is a short list of the things I learned Month 4
- How to build a bamboo hut
- Cutting bamboo with a machete
- Tying down a straw roof
- Digging holes with your hand
- It takes time
- Nothing goes to waste, including your septic water. Makes a great fertilizer for the banana and mango trees.
- Stop waiting for God to tell you what to do, because He already did. It’s in the Bible. He calls us to make disciples, heal, serve, forgive and love.
- When you paint and clean up a house for a man who wants to start a business, you will run into mice, scorpions, spiders, and huge geckos.
- You can share the gospel with someone as much as you want but if you don’t continue to disciple them, they will fall back to their old self.
- God loves the least of these, and you should too including, the sick, hurt, suffering, murderers, rapists, everyone.
- It’s okay to invite an ex-con into your home. Teach them to love
- There is joy in a juvenile detention center. The boys want to have fun, and learn from their mistakes.
- You can fit 30 people in one truck.
This a video I made to bless Pat and his family.
