Oh Nepal…Where do I even begin. When we arrived in Nepal we had our first debrief. It was such a cool week to relax and rest. There is so much to do in Nepal and we were able to stay in a hostel and explore Nepal for that week. After debrief we all split up and went to our ministry homes. We were paired up with another team and we spent the month with them. It was a really cool month of doing random things. We started out our ministry week by pairing up with a YWAM team and putting on a church/soccer camp with children our host had rescued from the slums or from trafficking. It was so fun to hang out with the kids and play games with them.
The next week we started doing Slum ministry. We woke up early and got on a bus for about 30 minutes to get to the slum. We put on a mini VBS every morning. We sang songs, taught a bible story and played lots of games. We went to two different slums throughout the week so we were able to build relationships with the children. We did that for the whole week.
Our last week of ministry in Nepal, we split up into different “teams”. There was a photography team, a video team and a team of people who did random things. The photography team took pictures of all the girls in the house and of our ministry hosts family. The random team painted the little school room in one of the slums we visited. They made it look much cleaner and new! I was on the video team and we were able to create a youtube channel for the ministry we were working with. They had a bunch of video that previous teams had created and they wanted a channel so they would all be in the same place. I created a graphic for the channel and we uploaded about 35 videos to the channel (Not an easy task with Nepal wifi!). It was a really fun way to bless the ministry.
The last day we did ministry, we did bar ministry. We split up into groups and we went into the bars and met girls and talked to them. The ministry we were with does bar ministry and if they meet girls who aren’t happy with where they are and want to get out, they will rescue them from the bars. We were supposed to get phone numbers of girls who weren’t happy. We were able to befriend a girl and her sister. They didn’t really want to work at the bar anymore and we were able to get their phone numbers to give to our host who would later follow up with them.
Overall Nepal was amazing! It is filled with beautiful views of the Himalayas, the kindest people and the greatest God. I can’t wait to go back someday!
