Our car bumped along the unpaved road running through a neighborhood trash dump. Mike rolled down the window, and before he could speak the children yelled “Feeding! Feeding!” Shortly after, they were trailing behind the car with their plastic cups in tow.
This meal comes once a week, and they were excited.
One by one we scooped the stew into cups and bags until the bucket was empty and we had no more food to give. We prayed, presented a Bible story, and played with the kiddos, and then we left. Just like that.
A meal is good, but an enduring impact would be better. That’s why I love what God is doing through the feeding program at KIDS international ministries.
A large component of our ministry with KIDS is working with their existing feeding programs, but more specifically, we are going into the communities to find church leaders who have an interest in running the feeding programs in their churches. Our main focus on these trips is to build partnerships, partnerships that help make the program sustainable and the change enduring.
We are looking for people who can partner with KIDS ministries long after we leave.
On another afternoon, my team and I prayed and asked the Lord where we should go to find these partners for KIDS. After riding a trike and a few Jeepnees, we ended up outside the Asia Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary. What, do you presume was happening there? The annual Sports Fest, an event where pastors from all over Manila convene at one location for one day.
We just happened to stumble into this event, and we met twenty pastors who were interested in running KIDS feeding programs from their individual churches. On a good day, we may have had time to visit four or five different churches, but the Lord gave us twenty!
God is so good.
When we approach Him with humility and a servant heart, He will lead us in the way we should go; He will bring us right where we need to be.
The fruit we bear when we abide in Him far outshines what we produce on our own.
He “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20).
So, thank you Jesus for the way you are working in us and through us. We give you all the glory.
Until the Whole World Hears,
Mia
