Greetings from Santiago, Chile! I have been in Chile now for two weeks…crazy! My team and I are located in San Jose de Maipo, in a very rural area. Our home for the month is on a compound with a church home that we’ve been helping to renovate.
Our ministry for the month is with James and Coletta Morsey. James and Coletta are missionaries who moved to Chile 21 years ago because they heard a whisper. A whisper to leave everything they knew in America to further God’s kingdom elsewhere. This step required a huge act of obedience. Upon being here, James and Coletta have planted two churches and are currently working on their third church plant. James is a pastor and leads the service, but the hope of each church is to raise a Chilean pastor to take James place. My team this month has the privilege of starting this third church up. The church is called Iglesia Baptista Esperanza De Vida. We got here just in time because this past Sunday was their first church service and my team got to help put it on! We helped out with the hospitality team, children’s message and simply being there to support this church. The Morseys had people attend the church who they had not seen show up in months. God brought people to this service and it was truly a gift to see. Also my teammate RJ gave his testimony and James translated it to the service. The people listened and were surprised at the fact that we decided to spend a year traveling the world just to share Jesus with others.
Now when we’re not working on fixing the church property, we get to join the Morseys on Thursdays and help with their Children’s Hospital ministry. We get to enter these hospital rooms led by the Morseys and pray over each of these kids as we hand them wordless bracelets, which share the gospel. Each color represents a different aspect of the gospel. Black is sin, red is the blood of Christ, white is forgiveness, yellow is the light of God and green is growth. On Fridays we participate in their neighborhood ministry called Young Life and interact with the kids. Our ministry for this month is also to continue to build and establish these relationships the Morseys have built up with their neighbors and others who are members of the Church. Some have heard of Christ, while others do not believe at all. The Morsesys have scheduled an Once (light dinner) and my team has been able to split up and eat dinner which each of these individual families and share our stories and even help to teach English, while they teach us Spanish in return. It’s been such a blessing to be invited into their homes because they value the Morseys and the kindness they’ve shown them. Also within the next week, the Morseys plan on us going into the local school and teach English to high school students.
God is moving here in Santiago because James and Coletta heard the whisper. This whisper continues and I’ve heard it since being here through them. God has showed his provision among the Morseys and continues to amongst the communities they’ve established. To be able to be apart of something much bigger than myself has been humbling. I look forward to hearing how this Church grows and seeing even more lives the Morseys will impact because of a whisper from the Lord.
If you guys could join me in prayer for James and Coletta and their ministry.
Pray that:
-God will build a church if they are faithful to sow the seed.
-God will help them reach their neighborhood
-If you guys could help them help out people to reach the target area in Hacienda del Penon
thanks my pals <3
