I’m in Haiti!!!  It still hasn’t really sunk in that I’m actually here.  So I’ve been here for about 3 weeks now and I just wanted to give an update!

I’m in Mirebalais working with an organization called Grace So Amazing which is an orphanage and school.  I have been working at the orphanage and it’s been amazing so far.  Every day looks different and I love it.  I’ve been able to help with the babies, help the people running the organization do various things around the house, help the Mama’s cook, and help with Beauty for Ashes.  Beauty for Ashes was an event we put on for the Mama’s that work at Grace So Amazing.  It was a safe space for the women to talk, share their stories, and relax from the hectic life of raising 21 children.  We did various activities with them and on the last day we had a spa day.  I’ve also been able to go on some adventures like swimming in the ocean, going snorkeling, riding motos to the market, watching locals play basketball and soccer, and getting to experience a Haitian church!  This country is absolutely beautiful and so are the people here!

I also wanted to share what a day in my life looks like in Haiti!  My day started helping with the kids, and I got to go on a walk with one of the babies.  I also got to help paint the kitchen where the Mama’s cook.  In the afternoon and I was outside playing with the kids and some locals came over and asked if we wanted to play basketball.  We fit literally 15 people in a pickup truck and it started pouring so we played in the rain.  At one point I just laid down in the puddles and we were all splashing like little kids.  When we came home we invited the locals over for dinner and they laughed at us when we told them we were having banana pancakes for dinner because they said it’s not a proper dinner!  It was really cool seeing language and cultural barriers broken down and everyone just laughing and enjoying life together.

I’ve had so much fun in Haiti so far and I can’t wait to see what happens this last week!  It’s always an adventure and I never know what’s going to happ
