7:45
Wake up. At least, this is when I wake up. Some are earlier risers than others (And Vivi is sweeping the floor because it’s the desert and dirt is everywhere). Then it’s the walk across the little courtyard to the bathroom-built outhouse style, but with a real toilet. You just scoop water out of the 5 gallon bucket and pour it into the bowl to flush. Of course, we bring our own toilet paper back and forth to the bathroom because it’s shared by all who live in the buildings that surround the courtyard, and heaven knows our World Race budget cannot afford to supply toilet paper for that many!
8:00
Time for Bible Study as a team as we eat cereal (probably dry). We’ve been going through John.
Then it’s time to fogure out what to wear. Oh wait! It’s Thursday, so we will be doing construction, picking up where we left off yesterday. Which means…same clothes as yesterday! We don’t worry about the double-use because we are either doing our laundry by hand, or carrying it a mile (each way) to our pastor’s house to use his washer, so our standards of re-wearable has dropped significantly. Lol! (And Vivi is sweeping the floor).
8:30
Off on our mile-long walk towards church to sand the walls to prepare them for paint. #lotsofdust
11
Clean up after our work and use the WiFi to connect with home a bit. Then head back to the “house” to fix lunch (And Vivi is sweeping the floor).
12
Lunch! Cooked on our camping “stove” in our pot that’s all taped up because it’s full of holes. It’s probably ramen with salt, canned tuna, and mayonnaise.
For the afternoon we work to be ready for church that night (And Vivi [or maybe someone else] is sweeping the floor). Whoever is going to preach finished their sermon and translates it in Google Translate so that Vivi can have it in Spanish as they have it in English. Alyssa picks which 5 songs we will sing (out of the 7 or so Spanish songs we know). Rest if we have time.
6:30
Head back to church so we can use WiFi before church.
7:30
Begin watching for people to show up for service.
7:50
At least one person has probably arrived, so we begin to congregate and wait till there’s enough people to start.
8:20
Begin service because there’s at least 4 people now (besides us).
9:45
Kiss everyone goodbye and head back to the “house”. Probably buy a rotisserie chicken on the way.
10:15
Get back and quickly tear apart the chicken and boil rice. Salt and “Slap Ya Mama” seasoning, and it’s ready! EAT!
10:45
Some shower on our outhouse-with-water. Others begin to get ready for bed. Vivi sweeps.
11
BED. Which means Vivi asks if everyone’s ready for lights out, and if not, assigns someone else to turn them off so she doesn’t have to get out of bed once she’s in it. She sweeps again before bed. Then we’re laying in the dark on our straw mats as we chat until we’re too exhausted and drop off one-by-one. It’s been a great Thursday!
