“What might happen if we let the gospel be what it is- A gritty, bloody, revolutionary call to die.” Eric Ludy in the book Bravehearted Gospel.

A question I ask myself on the World Race a lot and I asked back at home in church. Where are the men? I’m in the middle of the world race now. Currently, there is only me and two other single guys and 3 married guys on this trip. Before I left home I was in a small group with only one other guy. I looked around my church and wondered where are the guys my age. Why do guys not want to do church?

I just sat down to read a new devotional on my bible app. I got 2 paragraphs into the devotional and stop reading because something finally clicked.

I’m sick of getting called weird.

I get it if you are not a Christian it is weird for you to understand what I’m doing but if you aren’t a Christian you live out your beliefs why would it be weird for me to live out mine.

Does it not make Christians more real if they live what they believe?

I’m tired of Christian’s saying to live for God is weird. As a Male, I hate that, I don’t want to be weird. Why do we keep saying it as Christians?

Why is it not weird that if we believe what we believe and nothing changes in your life and if you don’t want to tell everyone, why is that not weird?

Why is living out what we believe is weird????

This thing we believe is our hope. It’s our salvation. Why do Christians keep saying you have to be weird when you follow God.

Can we all change that? When people write books or devotionals or preach sermons we should say, this is your salvation, this is your hope, have faith in it and live it out. This was purchased with the blood of Christ so stand up and live for someone that died for you.

This isn’t weird this is for the creator of the universe. Live with love, conviction, grace, and realness. For the gospel calls us to be kingdom bringers.

When we call someone to live there life for Christ and be “weird”, I believe it has created the culture of hypocrisy. If we keep calling a walk that matches your belief weird we start thinking it is.

The world will always call Christian’s weird it because we are different than the world. The world will hate us, the world hated Jesus and we trying to be little Jesus’s, so why wouldn’t the world hate us and call us weird.

Maybe the church needs to change something to get guys into doors again. Maybe the first step is to stop saying let’s be weird together, but rather say let’s live for a reason, let us find purpose in something else other than the things that always let us down. Let us live a life worth living. Putting away the treasures of this earth and picking up our cross.
