Hey everyone! I am sorry for not updated everyone as fast as I expected to. I don’t have wifi where I am staying so the updates will be limited but I will post a blog when I can to updated you.
We arrived in Nicaragua last Monday. This month we are staying on a 70-acre farm and it is incredibly breathtaking! When we pulled up to the property the first day all I felt was peace all around me. On the farm they have 3 or 4 horses and lots of dogs. We have been so blessed this month already. We have beds to sleep in, clean water to drink, showers, and we have a lady that cooks us incredibly delicious meals 3 times a day. Blessed is an understatement.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we wake up at 5am for prayer. Everyday we wake up at 6am for quiet time with the lord. (I hate waking up early, ask my family) But it has been so rewarding to start the day off spending time with Jesus. I now wake up on my own and if I sleep in past 7:30am I feel like I am sleeping in. How crazy lol.
Jesus has already broken my heart for his people here in Granada. They have very little, yet they are so joyful and hospitable. They will welcome you into their home and lives like it’s nothing. Sunday I was riding in a bus coming home from church and I was looking out of the window and started to cry. The way that these people live broke my heart. But as I was looking out the window I saw the hope these people have. They were sitting in chairs waving at us as we drove by. They smiled with joy as we waved back to them. Reflecting back, it made me think, wow I have a home, a bed, clean water, and food and yet I am not grateful for what I have. I don’t even thank God for what he has blessed me with. He has shifted my perspective and opened my eyes to see these people how he sees them.
This month we are working with local pastors. So far we have partnered with a local pastor and gone out evangelizing in the community. We have also gone to the community center here in Granada to hangout with some of the local kids. They love to dance and braid hair.
Here are some things I have leaned here in Nicaragua so far:
- God will destroy any expectations that you may have.
- Sharing a room with 8 girls can be fun!
- You CAN fit 32 people in 2 trucks to travel to ministry.(picture below)
- Sometimes you have to shower with frogs!
- When they say it’s rainy season, believe it because it is always raining.
- When someone says they will be there at 9 they really mean 9:40 LOL (Nicaragua time)
- You eat rice every single meal, Even for breakfast. I am learning to love it!
- Not having WIFI can be hard.
- If your hair is down the kids will want to braid your hair.
I am loving my time here! Make sure you subscribe to my blog if you want to get updates on my journey! If you feel led to donate towards my trip to keep me on the field you can click this link lindseybrown.theworldrace.org
