First order of business after arriving in Nepal was team changes. I would like to introduce you to my new team, team Summit!!! Erin is our team leader (so glad to pass the baton off to my dear friend) and my teammates are Megan, Victoria, Kailey, and Alyssa. Before we were able to break off and begin our ministries in Nepal, we had to hang out as a squad in Kathmandu for a little over a week as we applied for our Chinese visas. For a little while China was off the table but we are excited to be going even though the process is long! But as we say life is ministry and ministry is life so we found ways to share Jesus and love in the waiting.
Our first trip was to the resting place. It is a coffee shop and guest house where every morning from 8am-10am they spend 2hrs in intercessary prayer. We got to join together with other believers all with different missions, different organizations, but the same unifying goal… JESUS! It was such a beautiful thing to be a part of! Jesus is here and He is moving in Nepal!!!! This morning the heart was to pray for the salvation of Muslims as Ramadan had just begun. Time flew as firehouse prayers were said and worship was sung! It is an incredible thing when you get a bunch of believers in one place to pray, it made no difference that we didn’t know each other we just jumped right in.
God even moves in the local coffee shop we have made our second home!! I went there one morning, as well as many others, for my quiet time and of course a delicious Carmel macchiato and breakfast sandwich. As I was reading and praying God said “you are going to pay for all the world racers in here this morning.” I felt the need to clarify this haha, I asked, “ALL the racers? Not just a select person or two?” He said “no, all!” I asked, “do they just need a blessing this morning???” He did not give me a reason but repeated that I was to pay for everyone. So I went to the counter to pay and I told the guy at the register I want to pay for my friends as well. He looked at me quite confused, I repeated I want to pay the bills of my friends as well. He asked me who and I began to point all of them out. He would pause after each one to reveal the total and verify that is was ok. I smiled and said yes each time. He told the waitress what I was doing and they began to ask me questions about why I would do such a thing. It turned into a 15min conversation about how God had blessed me and I wanted to bless my friends and share the love of Jesus with them. It’s turns out blessing my friends was just an added bonus, the real purpose was to share the love of Jesus with these two workers and that is worth every penny!!!
Next stop was Iris ministries. Every Tuesday and Thursday they provide a meal for the homeless community here. They also provide clothing and basic medical care. As our teammates served food myself and Victoria (also a RN) got to help out in their small clinic!!! It still is the absolute greatest thing when I get to combine my love of Jesus, people, and medicine into one!!! As men entered with varying wounds to treat, we got to pray over them and dress their wounds! The woman running the clinic had no medical background but saw a need and wanted to fill it. As we went along we got to teach her how to do dressings, and bless and encourage her.
Lastly we went to beauty for ashes. “Beauty For Ashes Nepal is a gift items and accessories manufacturing company. We believe poverty is one of the main problems that fuels human trafficking in the world today. To combat this problem, we employ women who are marginalized and those escaping exploitative situations. Our goal is to not only produce stylish and quality wholesale products for you to enjoy, but also to change the lives of the women who make these products by providing a work environment that is Christ-centered and family-oriented.” We got to meet the 23 women currently employed there and give their morning devotional. It is such a beautiful organization and I was blessed to be a small part of it! Needless to say I spent a fair amount of money in their shop but glad to know exactly what the profits support!
We will be heading out soon and I am excited for the ministry ahead but blessed to be used and see God move in the waiting!
