Oh, man. We finally made it to Zimbabwe after 48 hours worth of bus rides. If you really want to understand the hell that travel days are, my teammates all have posted pretty accurate descriptions. I’ve put that memory in a dark closet somewhere and never want to look for it again. Please check them out and get a good laugh or two!
My team and I have just started ministry in Zimbabwe and I am so EXCITED!!! Four years ago was the first time I set foot in Zimbabwe and worked alongside a school in Murewa. I knew then that I would return to this beautiful country. It’s so surreal that I actually made it back.
Sadly, I am not near Murewa but I am serving with Bulawayo Baptist Church in the southern part of the country. The language is different, but I can say that the sadza is exactly the same. If you don’t know what sadza is, you’re lucky. Even though I am not near my old friends, I am excited to make new friends through our ministry schedule.
Our hosts Pastor Jeff and his wife Tammy are just plain awesome! They are originally from California (like myself) and decided to fully follow God’s plan for them to Zimbabwe. Plus, they breed bouvier dogs. I may have passed away when we got to pet them. We will be staying with them in a cottage behind their house. Guys, it’s lush. We have a washer. Praise the lamb. We currently are staying in a home for sexually abused girls while we wait for the cottage to become available. There is another team of girls from the U.S. who return year after year to work within the different ministries here.
Pastor Jeff has created an incredible and diverse schedule for us that will use each of our individual gifts. Some of the programs include: Bible studies in the squatters’ village and craft and vegetable markets, street evangelism and encouragement, painting and other improvements around the church, soup kitchen ministries, and youth and young adult meetings. I can’t wait to grow in my current gifts and for God to stretch me outside of my comfort zone!!! Pray for my team and this month full of ministry.
