Part 2: Daughter in the Red Light

As we prayed for the men, women and children in the Red Light district we sobbed. The reality of someone’s daughter, son, sister, brother, mother, father being involved in prostitution or human trafficking was and still is heartbreaking. The reality of men buying women or women buying men for personal satisfaction makes me angry, but the Lord reminds me of how they too are broken and searching for true real satisfaction. Before going out into the Red Light District for ministry my mom and I felt an overwhelming compassion for the people and wept aloud over these women, men and children in prayer.

Before we went out, we were told powerful truth, “There is no such thing as secular ground because we carry the presence of the Lord and He lives inside us so we make it Holy”. This was sweet truth to hear before we went out to pray and talk to the people because the light shines brighter than the dark. This truth kept going through my mind as my mom and I walked and prayed. The Lord knew who we would talk to and who we would pray for.

As we walked through the streets we prayed for the different people we saw, the shoes we passed by (specifically those located outside the dark massage parlors), the families we saw, the store and bar owners, the women, children, men, etc. while walking and praying we held onto that truth: where we walk, so does the Lord. The Lord sees and loves everyone, He is walking with us, going before us, and wanting us to come to Him!

This past week spent with my mom was such a blessing. She continues to amaze me with her big heart, joy, loud laugh and unceasing prayers. I am so thankful for her and her ability to continue to point me to Jesus. Praying and talking with people in the Red Light District, helping build furniture, sanding chairs and tables together, and playing with cute Thai kids was icing on top of the cake. During her time here I got to see the beauty of families doing ministry together and the connection and bonds between families grow. It’s amazing and beautiful to see the heart of family members pursue Jesus alongside you.
