Dear Misha,
You, my darling, are one loved little girl! You were so well taken care of by everyone in Monwi while your mom was gone due to sickness. My first instinct, as I held you and watched you smile in my hammock, was to tell you about how I could take you home to America with me. How you could be so loved and wanted. How may things and opportunities you would have in the US. But, as I told you this, no less than four Haitian adults and children interrupted my hammock time just to kiss you, hug you, or simply say “Mish-Mish”! This unfailing love made me realize you did not need me. You didn’t need America. You still don’t. You have a beautiful and wonderful community around you. You have love and support right where you are. This community stepped in so readily to help and love on you. There was nothing I, by taking you away from your home and culture, could provide you better than this beautiful community is already doing!
With love,
The white american girl you didn’t and still don’t need to “save” you!
