As I was reading the psalms today something stuck out to me. I wanted to share what God was teaching me through His word.
Psalm 119:1-8 (NLT)
“Joyful are people of integrity,
who follow the instructions of the Lord.
Joyful are those who obey his laws
and search for him with all their hearts.
They do not compromise with evil,
and they walk only in his paths.
You have charged us
to keep your commandments carefully.
Oh, that my actions would consistently
reflect your decrees!
Then I will not be ashamed
when I compare my life with your commands.
As I learn your righteous regulations,
I will thank you by living as I should!
I will obey your decrees.
Please don’t give up on me!”
I love the way this psalm ends, “please don’t give up on me.” Romans 3:23 tells us that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I can feel myself making this plea all to often.. “God please do not give up on me.” I tend too forget about verse 24, which says “and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.”
When he looks upon me He does not see John David the man who fell short. He is not adding bullet points to a long list of transgressions I have racked up. Not even close! He sees John David the man who is justified, the son who walks in victory, and the child who is innocent in His sight. Joyful am I when I get a chance to love my neighbor as myself. Joyful am I as I continue to chase after him with all my heart. Joyful am I as I obey all He’s written on my heart. Joyful am I!
I am currently in Kazakhstan teaching English, playing sports, and sharing faith as I build relationships. This place is more beautiful than I had imagined. The people are extremely hospitable and easy to build friendships with. Please be in prayer for safe travel over the next week. More info on all I have been doing here to come soon so stay tuned!
