His grace is sufficient for me. His grace is sufficient for you. How amazing is grace!?
In 2 Corinthians 12:9 it says, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
I recently listened to a spoken word by the artist Micah Bourne. For those that do not know what spoken word is, it can be best described as poetry put to a beat. I would call it, rap for the soul. The song is titled, “Freakshow.” The theme of the entire thing is that our Father’s grace is amazing and sufficient for us. Below is an excerpt from the beginning of the work.
“The picture we paint in our minds
is a far cry from the reality of heaven
When the saints go marching in
it will not be a parade of the almost perfect
God does not reserve grace for those
who only need a little bit
The healthy are in no need of a doctor
The Healer is for the sick
Heaven will be a freakshow”
He goes on to make some crazy claims. That in heaven we will see people meet their childhood molesters with an embrace. That in heaven we will see aborted children tug on their mothers, and they will be reunited in joy. That in heaven we will see suicide bombers that accepted grace in their last seconds of life, and we will meet the clinically insane who turn out not to be so crazy.
No, I am not saying everyone makes it into heaven and neither is this song, but I am saying that anyone can receive grace. The only way to the Father is through his son Jesus, and He came for each and everyone of us no matter our past. Even if the only person to accept this grace had been the thief hanging next to Jesus on the cross He still would have come, because grace is not limited for the mostly moral and decently upstanding people. His grace is sufficient for all of us.
Through the many ministries I have worked with over the last five months I have witnessed many who have no idea that what they do is wrong. In some cultures the religions they hold onto actually encourage these things. Its hard to see and often times heartbreaking. I struggled for a while with how I can tell someone that what they do is wrong when it is culturally right. Ultimately though, I have learned that I am not in these places to change culture. I am here to tell them about a grace that is sufficient for them. I am here to tell them about a man named Jesus, and once they know Him then Papa can begin to do a great work in them.
If you are reading this today I hope you know how loved you are. I hope you know that His grace is sufficient for you. In our weaknesses and in our struggles, Christ’s power is made perfect. He will meet you where you are at, all that’s needed is for you to invite him in. Please, come join the freakshow!

A Time Like This by Micah Bournes
I am currently mid-way through my time in Nepal. God’s beauty is everywhere here: in the Nepali people, in the surrounding creation he crafted, and in the adventure that awaits to be partaken in. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me and my squad. Please continue to pray for us and our ministry here. (more to come on that soon!)
