My name is John David Goins. I am about to graduate from Ole Miss with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. With that degree I plan to go into public accounting after I complete the World Race. To introduce myself further I thought I would answer some typical “get to know you questions.”
“If money were no issue, what would your perfect day be?” I would wake up to the smell of breakfast cooking at a reasonable hour. Then my family and I would watch the rest of a movie that my parents fell asleep watching the night before, as we eat breakfast casseroles, pancakes (preferably with peanut butter and syrup), and bacon. The rest of the day would involve being out in the sun, swimming, wakeboarding, and being lazy. Lunch would be assorted snacks so as not to take up to much time out of the day. Dinner would be steak and potatoes (grilled at home) and afterward dessert would be making smores around a fire. Finally finishing the night with boardgames and a movie, which we will have to watch the last half the following morning.
“What is your favorite piece of clothing you own?” Definitely my Austin Half-Marathon t-shirt because I had to run 13.1 miles to earn it. I wear it all the time.
“Would you go hang-gliding/white water rafting/sky diving?” Absolutely!
“If you did not have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?” I would write a series of best selling books. They would be highly entertaining and something the whole family would want to read. Were you picturing Harry Potter when you read this? So was I.
To wrap up, I am from a family of five: Mom, Dad, older brother, younger brother and myself. In the last two years we have become a family of seven, with the addition of my sister-in-law and most recently my nephew. I grew up in a Christian household and gave my life to Christ early on. I decided to do the World Race because I was feeling called to do something although I did not know what at the time. After learning about the race I gave it a lot of prayer/ discussion with my family and friends. Slowly things fell into place and I finally decided to step out in my faith and accept the offer I had been extended by Adventures in Missions.
