Sometimes, you just need some laughter to wash away the stresses of the day.

One day this last week, the team with stressed throughout the day for various reasons.  We decided to fix an “American” meal for our hosts and their family.  So, we attempted mac & cheese with the ingredients we had.  We sat down at the table and enjoyed the meal with the family.

Our broken Spanish (and their broken English) came together for a night of laughter!!

Alex told me that I’m a good cook. He was explaining something in Spanish, and I couldn’t understand.  But he mentioned “Mario”.

“Who’s Mario?” I asked.  Everyone started laughing.

Alex was trying to explain that, if you are a good cook, you are ready for Marriage! Nope, not this girl!!!  No marriage for me this year!!

He then asked Chelsea if she was a good cook. She nodded. He said in Spanish “then you are ready for marriage”.  Chelsea didn’t understand but nodded anyways. Everyone started laughing!! They quickly learned who could understand their language, and who pretended to understand!!

The rest of the night continued with laughter.  I inherited the name “gato feo” by the 3 year-old grandson of our host, which means “Ugly cat”. I made a creepy face at him, and now he won’t call me anything else.

Before bed that night, someone on the team mentioned how the laughter released all the stress that built up during the day. And it was so true!!  Even with the language barrier, we had a great time with the host and his family; we deepened our relationship with them and built some great memories!!
