The majority of my ministry in Romania was spent in the office doing desk work. It’s not a very relational ministry. It’s background work.
It means planning and coordinating and staring at a computer instead of talking to a person. It can be hard to find worth in something you can’t see the results of first-hand.
My team decided to each write a letter to a person who will be impacted by the work we’ve done, but who we will never meet. It was inspired by Philippians 4:1 “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.”
My letter follows, without edits, as is. Straight and honest and true:
To His Beloved,
You are my beloved as well.
I do not know you, and yet I love you.
It seems an impossible thing,
And it is without Christ.
How can you know my love?
It is because I could not and would not do this without love.
Could means I am not capable of.
Would means I am capable, but will not, for lack of desire.
But I desire. I desire to see you when God takes us both home.
I desire a joy for you that cannot be stolen from the world.
Though I do not know you by name,
I know you by your heart.
It beats for the same worship of our Lord.
And I have full trust in Him and His plan for you.
And though I will not see the first fruits,
I trust in the process, the turning of the soil.
It is enough, for our God and His promises are enough for me and you.
Love,
His Beloved.
