To be honest, I had no idea I was leaving New York this year. I’ve only been living in the Big Apple for the last 3 years and I asked God, “Why so soon?”

I was just starting to get comfortable in this big city I called home– I have a nice apartment in Brooklyn, a stable career in higher education where I am making a direct impact in students’ lives, an amazing church that has helped me grow so much, countless friends and wonderful people that have become family, and endless adventures in this city that never sleeps…

So you’re wondering…

Why leave everything behind for an unknown future? Why throw away what you’ve built and worked hard for? Why would you want to live uncomfortably and give everything up when you can still make a difference right where you are?

The answer is…

Because God never wants us to be comfortable… He wants to continue and stretch our faith, challenge us, grow us, and help us learn how to rely and trust in Him even when it doesn’t make any sense. He always has a bigger plan and wants to take us to the next level but in order for Him to do that, we need to learn how to say “YES” and step out in faith.

Often times, I can say for myself, we are scared to go outside of our comfort zone because we’re afraid of failure. We don’t know what’s on the other side because we’ve never been there and we never dared to even try. We are usually more content being in a familiar place versus unfamiliar, and we would rather stay comfortable than be uncomfortable.

But tell me…

How will you unlock your potential if you stay where you are? How will you grow if you don’t challenge yourself? How will you live out your purpose if you’re not doing anything different and not taking the necessary steps to actually get there?

Whatever it is that’s stirring up your heart, I pray that God will give you the courage and boldness to do what He’s been telling you to do as He did with me. I pray that God will give you the strength to overcome that fear inside of you. And if you find yourself stuck and wondering what decision you need to make, ask yourself, “What would bring God more glory?” and whatever that is should be the step and answer to your question.

You don’t need to be prepared to do it, you don’t need to be qualified, you just need to be willing. When you have a willing heart, He will equip you and orchestrate everything on your behalf!
