Hey everyone! I made it safely to Indonesia! We flew out of Atlanta on the 16th, made it to Jakarta at 3 am on the 18th, took a taxi to a hostel, slept for a few hours, and then we were back at the airport at 10 am to catch a small plane that would take us two more hours to get to our host’s house. It is so good to finally be here!!
We are staying at a church in the city with a pastor and his family, and we get to sleep inside on mattresses. So no tents this month which is a huge blessing! The pastor and his wife have three kids, and the pastor’s sister and her three kids are staying with them as well. It is a full house! They are all super sweet and have really made us feel at home here. I taught the kids how to play go fish and duck duck goose, and they loved it! It was my favorite.
This is my buddy Ada. Isn’t she cute?? 🙂
It is the rainy season here and it has rained hard almost every day, so it is very hot and humid. At the church we have been taking bucket showers and using Asian squatty potties. It has made me very thankful for American bathrooms! I will post a picture so you can see what it looks like, but there is a tall tub in the bathroom that is kept full of clean water and that is what we use for our showers and to flush the toilet. But before you start feeling too sorry for me, I should mention that we have a mall that has WiFi and a Starbucks that is only a ten minute walk away from the church. The mall also has a gym that we can use to work out in sometimes and have an occasional real shower on our off days from ministry.
As far as ministry goes, we have been giving a message and sharing our testimonies on Sundays at church, leading Sunday school, praying for babies at a hospital, playing with kids in a slum area, and speaking in an orphanage school. In our free time we will go over to Pastor David’s new house to help fix it up so they can move in soon. So that is the overview, I’ll post more details about our ministry stuff in my next blog. Things are going really well here! My team is awesome and I am having a blast serving and exploring Indonesia with them. I’ll post again soon!
In Him,
Heidi
