“Wait… you’re doing what?!” my friend exclaimed, her eyes widening. I had just told her of my intention to spend the month of November 2016 in the Philippines, and, her being one of many whom I had told, I was getting used to this reaction. I knew she heard me, but I animatedly repeated myself anyway. I told her that I had friends down there who were missionaries and had more than enough projects they needed help with. After the energy in our conversation died down a little, she asked me what I planned on doing when I got back to the States. I thought about it for several seconds before replying with a shrug, “Oh, I’ll have the travel bug out of my system by then. I’ll probably just settle down and get married.” Little did I know that my trip to the Philippines was only the beginning…

My mission trip to the Philippines was one of the hardest, yet most rewarding things I have ever done. I enjoyed experiencing the country, culture, and people (especially the kids!) I got to help with preschoolers, street kids, and construction projects. While I was down there I ended up living and working with a group of missionaries from Adventures in Missions. It is a really cool organization and I got to see first-hand what they do on a daily basis.

When I came back to the States from the Philippines I felt like something was missing and my life did not have the same sense of purpose that it did when I was overseas. I prayed about it and felt that God was calling me to go on another mission trip. I decided to research Adventures in Missions and I found that they have a program called the World Race for young adults that goes to eleven countries and the racers spend a month in each country. The racers assist already established missionaries with whatever they need, which provides long term relationships and care for the people they minister to. After looking into it and praying about it, I felt like God was calling me to join. The route I chose goes to Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Bosnia, Kosovo, Romania, South Africa, Lesotho, and Mozambique. I get to share the love of Christ and experience what He is doing in eleven different countries, and I get to go back to the Philippines! I am so excited!

Adventures in Missions doesn’t know exactly where I will be staying in each country until the time gets closer so I will be bringing a big backpacking backpack and a tent to live out of. It will be an adventure for sure! I know there will be challenges and this trip will not be easy, but it will be so worth it! I will grow and change so much and be able to make a difference. If you would consider partnering with me financially, but most importantly prayerfully I would really appreciate it. Thanks for reading, and please feel free to contact me if you would like to talk about my trip or if you have any questions.

In Him,

Heidi
