Wow wow, it feels like just a few days ago that I was flipping through emails & discovering the 2017 routes for this August with the World Race! I am still floating on clouds a bit & can hardly believe that I applied, & decided to go on this journey. I wanted to give you guys a quick update as to what I have been up to as my launch date approaches! As most of you know, I was unable to complete a spring term at UO as I have a mandatory training camp during finals week, so I decided to spend the last few months in Salem, soak up some sweet time with family, & begin preparations early. Now I am counting down the days until training camp in Georgia! Next Tuesday evening I will be hopping on a plane with all of my gear and heading to Gainesville for ten days of team building and preparation for our trip. I will be meeting all of my teammates who are also traveling from all over the states! I can’t wait to tell you guys how it goes.
I have been doing all kinds of preparation at home, getting all of my gear together & ready to go. Everything that I will have on the race will be carried on my back, and so I have been fine tuning exactly what I need & will be bringing, & making sure it all squeezes in there! Packing a tent, sleeping bag & pad, and clothing that can be worn in any season is quite a challenge but I have been having a blast.
There has been a slight change in our itinerary, and we will no longer be traveling to Turkey & Egypt due to the unrest there at this time. This is somewhat disappointing, but they have been replaced with Armenia & Georgia & we are still so excited to see what we are going to be doing there.
Excitingly, I have hit my halfway mark for fundraising & need just under $9000 to complete the cost going towards transportation, housing, food, insurance, etc. while abroad. I am so amazed & humbled by all of you who have supported me already, I am so incredibly blessed & feel so encouraged & supported by all of you! Huuuuge thanks going out to you guys!
