Turkey bowls, family gatherings and holiday Starbucks drinks are usually what fills my days this time of year. However, being in Zimbabwe the traditions are very different. Working in the center I have realized that holidays are not about the food, presents and shopping but about being grateful for what we have, spending time with the people that surround me and eating a meal together.
This past week I spent sometime in despair as you all know if you read my last blog post. But as the week has progressed the Lord has reminded me to be content where I am like Peter says and also finding the small things that I can enjoy. Almost every night my team and I make popcorn and tea, take it up to our room and just spend time together. We are not related by blood but we have chosen each other as family for these next 9 months and it has been such a blessing to do life with each and everyone of them.
I want to encourage each of you this upcoming holiday season to be reminded of why we celebrate these holidays and take time to just enjoy the family and friends that surround you! Thank you for your encouragement over this journey of my recovery. I am slowly healing day by day and learning how to have patience through this time.
