If you grew up on a farm, have done gardening, or worked with produce you’ll know that finding worms in cherries is not super alarming, gross as it is. Well, same thing with broccoli. Broccoli grows in dirt and worms live there, why should we be surprised? Broccoli bought at the Chilean street market would be no exception.
I get really weirded out at the thought of eating worms, dead or alive, large or small.
But today, I rebuked those notions. I was hungry and the smell of well seasoned soup burned my nostrils. I dished out a cupful, licking my chops, but alas! I see two worms floating on the top.
Now this wasn’t a moment like those in which mom would intervene with the magnifying glass and successfully convince me that it’s just a speck of oregano. A, mom wasn’t here and B, no magnifying glass was needed.
Either I have grown up a tad, or I was just super hungry, because even though I envisioned my whole cupful being wormy, I ate it right up. And mind you, it was the best soup I’d eaten overseas:) I removed them as I saw them, but those I didn’t see, I ate.
Now the ketch to this story is that I didn’t say a word to the others who were eating the soup about the worms and I’m about to post this blog and we have lots of leftovers.
Note to team: I’m sorry if you don’t like worms and that ingredient is unknown to you. I do hope you don’t change your mind about this having been a great soup day, and I hope the leftovers will be eaten and enjoyed in a timely and healthy manner.:):)
Let’s get to the point of what I originally felt inspired to write about: GRATITUDE.
Ya’ll gratitude is huge. It’s an instant perspective shifter. It’s a magnet for miracles. It gives birth to JOY. It’s a multiplier of abundance. It shuns fear and anxiety. It unlocks the fullness of life. Gratitude turns a meal into a feast, a house into a home, and a stranger into a friend.
For me today, being plucked from a garden I thrived in and loved, and transplanted elsewhere, gratitude makes all the difference in the world. I know what I water will grow.
Choose gratitude…
Today I am thankful for not only sustaining, but tasty foods to maintain my physical health. I’m thankful for teammates who enjoy cooking together and making memories in the kitchen. I’m thankful for Pastor David who has assigned us to cook our own meals with the purpose of creating that space for us to work together as a team. I am thankful for broccoli:)
