Have you ever noticed how Batman always has a Robin? Or Ironman always has Jim Rhodes? What about The Green Arrow and Speedy? Maybe how Captain America has Bucky? You have? It doesn’t really matter if you have or haven’t, the point here is that every Superhero has somewhat of a sidekick. What is really cool about all of this is there has always been someone in these peoples lives who aspired to be just like them. This situation happens to everyone, regardless of if you’re aware of it or not.
As a World Racer I have quickly realized that people look up to me, whether I like it or not. People in this country love “the Americans” almost as if were a tourist attraction for the locals. Some people here love to speak English with us because they want to be fluent. Regardless of the situation around us on the Race, people are seeing how we act and react to things and that slowly shapes how they do things because they look up to us. It works the same way back in America. I know that back home there were people who looked up to me, and I may not have even known it!
You can either be a person who is a good role model, someone who when people see you they think “I want to be like that” or maybe “I want my kids to grow up and be like that”. People always look up to you no matter how you’re acting, so you can act with kindness and generosity, in which case it will flow down stream to those who are watching you. You could also act selfishly and without remorse in which case that too will flow down stream. Either way it creates a ripple effect in society where we can change the society that we live in just by the way we act and react to the world around us. So be intentional with the people around you. You may not know the effects you have on peoples lives but just know that you do, whether it be a good effect or bad. Its your decision, but that decision, a few generations from now, may shape the course of our society.
