My whole life I heard the term, “I’m just a sinner saved by grace.” The statement was made with pure, humble intentions but I’m here to tell you that our Father calls us His children. See by using that original statement in the first place it implies that who God is, is actually not true. What Jesus did on the cross didn’t really do anything at all. I didn’t even realize how much this, “sinner saved by grace” mentality had affected me until I was corrected by someone the other week. I said, “I’m a sinner saved by grace.” and they responded with, “No you’re not, you’re a daughter of the King.” With nothing more and nothing less, and then they walked away leaving me basically shook to my roots.
We were never fatherless, from before time we were children of the King. He made us, designed everything about us and loves us endlessly and recklessly. He never stopped and He never will. He didn’t just stumble upon us and see that we had a great need and fulfilled it. No, He knew before He ever created Adam that there would be a need. It wasn’t a surprise to God. He created us and loved us before we ever took a breath but He gave us a choice. He gave us a choice to reciprocate the love back if we wanted too. We were born into the rural family but just like the prodigal son in Luke 15, we ran from God to live a selfish, sinful, destructive life and He sent His son to die for us because we screwed up and will over and over and over again. We may look like a “sinner” to people around us when we’re racking up charges only Jesus can pay for, but just because we are a lost sheep doesn’t make us not a sheep anymore. He is our shepherd that gives His sheep free will but He will leave the ninety-nine to save only one lost sheep. “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.” (Matthew 18:12-14)
We have to stop living with an orphan mentality or with a “sinner saved by grace” mentality if we’re ever going to walk out our true identity and power and authority we have through Jesus. To fully embrace our inheritance we have to let go of that mindset and allow the Lord to reshape our minds and hearts now that we are saved. It’s hard to wrap our brains around this concept because we know how wicked and unholy we are and all the wrong we have done up until this point and continue to do now and will always do. But see that’s the thing if we continue to look through our lens, our “sinner” lens, we will never be able to look through God’s eyes at what Jesus did on the cross and how He sees us and the people around us. Because when God looks at us before salvation He sees a misguided daughter or son of His consumed by sin. He desires for us to come back in fellowship with Him just like any loving father would. So He sends the Holy Spirit to convict and help us see what His perfect son did on the cross for us. “For God so loved the world, that He sent His one and only son to die, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) To continue looking through a, “sinners” point of view is taking the power and meaning out of the cross. When Jesus died on the cross ALL of our sin was forgiven! That means past, present, and future! All we have to do is accept the free invitation to be back in our Fathers arms because of Jesus. To walk across the bridge Jesus made and back into fellowship with our Holy Father. Not because of anything we have done or who we are but only by who and what He did and allowed. The new lens God gives us, allows us to be blown away even more because there is no way we could have paid our own debt. No way we can or should be where we are because of how far we were, BUT God goes to great lengths to get His children back.
You are a child of the Holy King of Kings, so start walking like you are. Stop walking with your head down because your Father has won the war! He is fighting your battles with you and He will give you everything you will ever need. He’s given you the same authority He gave His’ other Son. Walk boldly. Walk in the authority because YOU ARE A SON OR DAUGHTER OF THE KING! Pray big, bold, powerful prayers out loud because our Papa is a big, and powerful God. “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.” Ephesians 3:20 just said we can’t even ask or think big enough for what God will do. Basically God will always blow our minds. Ask God to take the, “sinner” mentally and give you fresh eyes for yourself and the people around you and I promise, the game will change.
You are a son or daughter of the King of Kings. You are no longer a sinner. You have all power and authority through Jesus. To walk in your full identity and inheritance all you have to do is say, “YES” when the spirit moves. When you fill that tug in your heart to pray or step out and you’re thinking there is no way I can do this… SAY YES! He will do it through you because it was never you in the first place. “But He said to me, my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
