“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.  Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”   -1 Corinthians 15:58

This is a verse I have been reading to myself every single day this month.  Marian, a sweet friend of mine, wrote me open when letters for every month of the Race.  The month of Kosova simply has four verses on it, and 1 Corinthians 15:58 is one of them.

After reading the letter I taped it to the fridge in my room so I could read it every day before going out.

This month has been amazing, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have to fight off complacency, complaints, stagnancy, or the month 7 slump.

The Lord has given me more than one subtle heart check this month.  He’s reminded me of why I came on the Race.  He’s reminded me that this life isn’t really about me.  He’s reminded me that if we are working for Him what we do is never useless.

This month has looked like seemingly mundane tasks, like sifting through donations and organizing a library.  It hasn’t been glamorous or exciting, but the Lord has taught me so much through it.

He’s helped me adjust my perspective.

Colossians 3: 17 says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

So whatever we are doing, whether we are talking, working, worshipping, reading, running, climbing a mountain, or laying down, whatever is it, we should be doing it for God.

Sometimes we can get caught up in routine, we get stuck in the mundane and forget who we are really doing this life for.  Are you living for yourself or are you living for the Lord?

When we start looking at what we do as a way to glorify the Lord and build His Kingdom, it becomes easier to serve with a joyful heart.  It becomes easier to give of yourself when you know you are building something bigger, something eternal.

Nothing you do for the Lord is useless.  Whether it’s teaching English, getting coffee with a friend, organizing a library, or simply going to work, it’s never in vain if you are doing it for God.

I want to encourage you all to seek this perspective change.  Your life matters, and what you do with it matters.

Seek first the Kingdom.

With great love,

Chels
