I am sitting on a train as we travel from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, the first leg of 3 days of travel to Malaysia. I found myself reflecting on my squad, reflecting on what they mean to me.
I think it would be crazy for me to have spent 7 months with these people and not be impacted by them, but I really didn’t expect the extent of impact they would have. They have changed my life.
I was told that I would probably walk out of the race with a couple best friends, but I wasn’t expecting to walk out with 18 brothers and sisters. But that’s what I have. I have men and women pushing me to be a better woman of Christ. I have 18 people praying for me, leading me, and loving me. I have community. Like the real Hebrews 10:24-25 stuff.
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
We meet together to encourage and to edify one another. We intercede for one another, we challenge one another, and we most definitely joke with one another. I can honestly say that I live in a community that was designed directly by God. After hearing all the stories of how people got on this race, it was no coincidence that we all ended up on this squad. We were all divinely appointed to be together.
I mean if we had more singers and dancers on our squad, I could definitely see us all in the airport arriving in the US singing, “We go together like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong.” Ya know, from Grease?
Okay probably not. But I really do think we go together. All of us.
So I want to tell B-squad thank you. Thank you for calling me higher, demanding that I represent Christ well. Thank you for being patient with me when you see my bad side. Thank you for showing me the importance of community. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for teaching me all that you know about Jesus. Thank you for desiring growth in me. Thank you for laughing at my stupid jokes. Thank you for being an example of a community who values prayer and worship. B-squad, thank you for obeying the Lord when he said to go. Our identity as a squad was made whole when you said yes to 11 countries in 11 months.
I am eternally grateful for your eagerness to serve the Lord overseas this year because you have changed my life. The lessons I have learned from you are priceless. I love you, B-squad.
