Parent Vision Trip (PVT)
PVT is a time where parents are invited to spend a week with their son or daughter while they are on the race. It provides an opportunity for parents to experience firsthand what “race life” is like. During this time, we serve, pray, worship, adventure, and participate in devotionals.
My mom traveled to Kyrgyzstan to share in PVT with me. I was so excited to just be with her: sit on her lap, hear about home, share about life. I loved that she was able to get a taste of what my life is like now.
I’ve changed these past 10 months. Life is different on the race than in the US. Sometimes it’s easier to be vulnerable and honest with strangers than it is your own family. I knew I wanted my parents to come; I wanted to experience this with them. I also knew it might be weird at times, and a bit uncomfortable and in some moments. It was, but so much of the richness of life comes from pressing into the uncomfortable: sharing, listening, sitting, being. I’m so glad that my mom and I shared what we’ve been learning about God, His character, and how He views us. I’m glad she was able to experience all squad worship and the testimonies from fellow racers.
