I’ve been in Africa for almost a week. This month has been unlike any other. My team, plus another team are in the rural town of Serenje, in the Central Province of Zambia. We are working with a group of pastors in the area and are split up amongst the houses of our hosts.

Zambian hospitality is unlike any other. They treat us like royalty. I have never felt more honored. Elizabeth and I are staying with Pastor Mumba – the kindest, most humble man.

Each day we work as a team with one of the different pastors. Mostly we go house to house, evangelizing. Typically that looks like sharing a story from the Bible and praying over people.

On our first day of ministry, my team joined Pastor John to encourage those that live in nearby villages to his church. His church is located 30 minutes outside of Serenje and can feel quite removed. While we were there, we went from house to house taking turns sharing the word of God with people.

Each house we visited seemed to house Christians, yet many of them didn’t have bibles to read of their own. Both English and Bemba are spoken in the region, but many only speak Bemba. Finding these bibles have been a hunt and we hope to find more as we continue meeting with people.

Something I’ve noticed is that many people call themselves followers of God, yet their only knowledge of Him is what others have told them. When you can’t discover Him by yourself,  a lot can get muddled in translation. Our hope is to spread as much knowledge about the Lord to our new friends as possible. So that families can be transformed as they meditate on His word.

As our team journeyed on, we came to a group of women getting water from a community well. I couldn’t help but think of another woman that visited a well at noonday.
This woman, from a rival tribe shouldn’t have come upon anyone.
Shouldn’t have been met.
Yet, she encountered Jesus that day.
She tasted living water for the first time.

And that’s why we’re here. To surprise people with the living water. To interrupt daily routines.

My prayer is that the people of Serenje come to taste the only thing that satisfies. That they feel more seen by God than anyone else. That they become so excited about the word of God, it humbly overflows.

I cannot believe I’m on the final leg of my World Race journey. Thank you! Thank you for your continual prayers. Thank you for your continual support. I’m a different girl than when I first began and couldn’t have dreamed of this life. My hope is to see God do miraculous things these next weeks and am expectant to see what He will do. I will never forget these weeks that I’ve lived with the Mumba family and ask for your prayers for them.
