Today we started ministry in Jamaica. We are evangelizing this month.

We were dropped off in a little town on a mountain side in Aboukir, Jamaica. We split into four groups of three to walk around the community and share the love of Christ and invite people to church. I was excited because evangelizing is one of my favorite things to do. I absolutely love sharing the love of Christ with people and forming relationships with them.

We stopped to pray, and Bekah knew we were supposed to stop at the house on the side of the road, or at least to stay on that side of the road for a little bit. I got to pray for an older man who was very high and then we went on our way. Just before praying for the older man, God had given me the color green as I was doing listening prayer, but I didn’t know what it meant.

While we were walking down a steep hill, a man in a green hemp shirt stepped out of his car and asked us why we were at his house. We answered and started a conversation with this man. He wanted to know more, why these three white girls had just left his house and what we were doing there. I shared a little bit of my testimony and tried to explain to him what God has done in my life and what He is capable of. He listened intently and I asked him if he had anything he wanted to share with us. He said that there was a lot of deep stuff that he wanted to share but that he didn’t have time to talk. I told him we have time and we’re willing to listen, but he had to get going.

So we walked down the road a little further and we saw his car and this sweet little boy in the doorway of a little snack shop. R (the man in the green hemp shirt) poked his head out and invited us in, he was so excited to see us again and was intrigued that we loved interacting and laughing with this little 5 year old boy who told us all about how his mom bought him this orange soda. I was so fixated on R’s laugh and he just had this presence about him that was so inviting.

We continued to go door to door and prayed for several families. But all I could think about was the man in the green hemp shirt. I prayed for him fervently, constantly. God placed him on my heart all day. I prayed that God would continue to give me the words to say to him when I saw him again and that he would come to church. I wanted that so badly for him, I just wanted him to know the goodness and grace of our Heavenly Daddy and what He can do in our lives.

The next morning, he showed up to church and my heart was overjoyed!! As soon as the service was over I jumped up from my pew to go say hi and he seemed so happy to see me. We got to talk for a while and he had so many good questions, he was so hungry to know more about God and I was so excited to have God use me and speak through me. He wants to know the Lord and have a personal relationship and he just isn’t sure if he is ready for that yet. I did not want to force it and there wasn’t much else I could say because we had to leave. But it was amazing to be able to share my heart and God’s heart with this sweet man.

I am not really sure why God chose me to speak to this man, but it has been an honor to pour into him and his life. I love the thirst he has to know more and the fact that he is so open with me. I can’t wait to see him again and have continued conversations with him about our Creator and his life.

Humbly,
Blaire
