Living in a foreign place with no comforts or people from home has forced me far out of a feeling of safety… but in a healthy way. It is starting to change my perspective on little things in life that I used to think were completely normal. During our midpoint debrief last week (WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE RACE! WHAT??) my whole squad was hanging out on the rooftop of a hostel we were living in. We were all listening to music and I quickly spaced out (as usual) and started thinking about the little moments in the past few months where Jesus has been present in the space around me. For some reason, I was looking at all of the people around me and watching their foot movements beat to the rhythm of the music and this is what came to mind. There is a sweet girl on my squad from Texas named Hanna and as I looked down at her feet I saw a small tap of her foot like she was aware of the music but also aware of her surroundings. Then I looked over and saw a boy from Florida named Jake, and he was fully consumed by the music moving his whole body to the rhythm. Lastly, I spotted a girl named Natalie from Colorado and she had no movement running through her body but she had a peaceful presence in her stillness. Through all of these peoples’ differences I noticed one main theme – Jesus is present in all of them. He breathed His life into ALL types of people. His ENERGY lives in the big movers, his INSIGHT in the small ones, and his PEACE in the still. Through that observation, a smile crept across my face at all of the people around me because I felt like I had just been whispered a little secret from our God. That I am completely surrounded by His people and He is moving in them even when they don’t notice it. I am so lucky to be surrounded by a community of believers. Through their walks with the Lord I am also learning about who He is.
