I AM SO BLESSED.
So, we had a layover in San Francisco on November 8. All of the east coast racers had been talking about how we were so excited to be stopping back in America, but how sweet it would have been to have a layover on our side so that we would get to see our family and friends. I honestly was really looking forward to America for just three things.
1. A hot shower
2. To lay in a hotel bed in a cozy robe and watch movies ALL DAY
3. A cheeseburger and fries
When we got to the airport, we got into groups based on what we wanted to do in San Francisco. So, I got into a group that needed to stop at the store for necessities, (of course) get an In N’ Out burger, and then would go back to the hotel for the rest of the day. While we were finalizing our plans, someone said to me “Wait, Bella I think there is an In N’ Out Burger over there for you”, I turned and all I saw was the sign for baggage claim. I was so confused and everyone just kept saying “look harder!”.
So, as I was trying to find the neon sign that would hold my heavenly juicy cheeseburger with greasy fries and ketchup, the most wonderful sight came into my view. I saw my mom and dad walking past baggage claim, each with a suitcase in hand and a big smile on their faces.
I WAS SO CONFUSED. I said so many times “what the heck we are on the west coast… WHAT are they doing here?!”. I have no idea how to explain the joy I felt in my heart the moment I saw their gorgeous faces. I felt so crazy full, my love tank exploded. Needless to say, I started crying and hugging them like crazy. I turned to my dad and asked him “How did you get here?!” and if any of you all know him you can imagine his response: “We flew.”
What I meant was “how in the world did you get to the west coast because only Californian parents were coming” and “wowowowowow my parents are so good at surprises!”
I am extremely grateful for that day I got to spend with my parents and just being in their presence. We of course got to get burgers AND frozen yogurt, and then we just spent the day with each other. We wanted to take my friend Emily out to dinner with us, so my dad found a delicious local Italian restaurant. We were planning to go back to the hotel to watch a movie together but we were all ready for bed by 8:45 pm.
The next morning, I got to say goodbye to them and head off to the airport to THAILAND. All in all, San Francisco was a time that I got to be a kid again and spend an amazing day with my parents. A time to realize the most important thing to do is…
1. Cherish the special memories with your family, because as you get older, they won’t come as often.
