Be ready

The false alarm story of saving a scuba instructor

One lovely afternoon, our team was relaxing in the pavilion, on the beach, that we’d claimed for team-time each day.

It was a quiet afternoon, not many people around us, when lizzy noticed something going on in the water.

She had seen a scuba diver thrash in the water, then turn over and float completely still. The other diver had quickly joined the first and seemed to be trying to revive them.

Within moments, Lizzy and Jess (a lifeguard and paramedic) were running to the water, dove in, and had reached the limp body of the diver and her companion.

From the shore I began to pray.

Just as quickly as they’d reached the divers, we heard laughter.

The two divers were instructors and they were training.

No one drowned.
No one was in danger.
No one even asked for help.

But our team was ready.

I think this paints a really cool picture. While there was no really danger in that moment, it seemed like there was and my friends were ready to take action. I was ready to intercede, they were ready to do whatever medical things they do… There was a ready ‘yes’ in their spirits and I was just such a proud friend.

How different would this world look if we were all ready? If we all looked intentionally outside of ourselves for opportunities to help, serve, look out for others…
