So, here’s the scoop…I did not hear about The World Race until about 4 months ago, around April of this year. I found it all on my own…through good ole’ Instagram. I was just scrolling through my feed one day and came across someone who I kinda, sorta knew who was on a race at the time. I thought it was cool. That was about it.
Fast forward a week or so, this World Race thing kept popping up in my life in prayers, in conversations, my small group. (Shoutout to my girls!) I thought it was so weird, because I hardly knew anything about it. So of course, I knew I had to do something. Prayer and prayer and…more prayer. Research, research, and more research.
So, what would you do if you had questions and needed to talk it out with someone? Who would you go to? Well, I went to my best friend and mentor, who then ended up hooking me up with people that she knew from college and friends of friends who had gone on the race before. This gave me the perfect opportunity to ask all the questions in the world that I had about this organization and get their trusted and honest feedback. Not only, did she pray with me, but she helped me research and asked me those tough questions, while still encouraging me. She also gave me a giant book with all the countries in the world, so that I could do my homework about the ones that I will be living in. (Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Bosnia, Kosovo, Romania, South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique).
After much prayer and asking God for guidance in the right direction, here I am. I have full confidence that this is His plan for the next season of my life. I believe God has something big in store and is going to do amazing things.
I have been on many mission trips throughout my life, all within the United States. I’ve traveled with my church to the Appalachian Mountains, many parts of Maryland, and New Mexico. These trips have shaped me into the person I am today, giving me a new perspective on life and how I view the world. I’m thankful for these experiences and I look forward to this opportunity for God to open my eyes to the needs of others and where I can serve.
I desperately desire to be the hands and feet of Christ and to see the world through His eyes. I want my life to reflect Him. To be an ambassador for Christ and a fisher of men. Jesus’s time on earth was completely committed to spreading the gospel. Always traveling and never staying in one place for too long. Demonstrating to us what true sacrificial love is. Leaving us with a mission to go out into the world to make disciples and save the lost, and doing so through the Holy Spirit.
Friends, this journey is not an easy one. This is a huge step of faith! I freak out like every 5 minutes to be real. But, just knowing God, knowing His power, His love, what He has done already in my life, I know that He has called me to trust Him wholeheartedly. To let go of my comfortable way of living and experience Him in a whole new light. Oh my lanta, I am so excited for the road ahead, and to be able to share this with you all is such a blessing!
With love,
Alyssa
