You might wonder what it looks like to eat on a World Race budget, so I figured I’d give you some quick insight. We have some allergies among us, but we’ve worked really hard to try to get things we all like. So far, spaghetti has been one of the best home-ish things that we’ve been able to cook ourselves — even AlyO can eat it if we make her rice noodles! We’ve had a lot of chicken & rice but we’re pretty happy campers π There has been some food experimenting & some ethnic tastes, mostly good π There were several occasions when we were invited places for dinner & I think they quickly found that whatever you put in front of us, we can demolish in no time. Picture how quickly a woodchipper destroys a branch…that’s us :S π Here’s a peek into what this month has looked like…it won’t all be as easy going as this month has been!
This is our first day shopping…we were pretty proud of how we stuck to our budget!
Nasi goreng! This became a staple that we often found ourselves ordering when we were at school — so good!
The first church we visited was selling these Chinese meatballs (on the left & right) & some kind of wet, sweet bread in the middle…veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery interesting!
Chicken on a stick! This was a meal we had while at the Center every week that we were pretty crazy about π
I love the Dutch Blitz cards in the background because it’s such a part of us π This is a beautiful soup that Ace made us one night. And even though half the ingredients weren’t available, she totally made it happen — delicious improv!
Rambutan — which basically means “hairy” — is a fruit that we got to eat at the refuge home we worked at; they picked them & we got to share them! Pretty refreshing π
This. Soup! So good! It’s a chicken curry & the options of what to put in it were all so delicious. It was a great meal prepared by our host’s housekeeper — loved it!
This is the amazing dragon fruit smoothie I had while I tried (but was unsuccessful) to get a blog to post…sad day. But a great smoothie!
I can’t remember the name of the fruit on the left, but it is my favorite. So sweet & just…yum. The snake fruit on the right is okay, but maybe less favorite.
This is a delicious meal created by our secondary host’s husband, a native Indonesian who is a master in the kitchen. If you can see the purple fruit at the far left next to the oranges, that is what the fruit in the previous picture looks like when it’s whole.
& finally, a small video about how random World Race meals can be. But it’s been an adventure, & we make it work no matter how odd the combinations. Here’s to more great food next month in the Philippines!
