One of my favorite Christian artist is David Crowder. I was listening to his song Forgiven and it always seems to move me. What moved me even more is seeing the painting of what motivated this song which I’ll post below at the end of the blog. What moves me is how accurate this song is to my life and everyone else on this earth. Our sins held Him to the cross, my lies and your lies, my hurtful deeds and your hurtful deeds. The lyrics to this song goes like this:
I’m the one who held the nail
It was cold between my fingertips
I’ve hidden in the garden
I’ve denied You with my very lips
God I fall down to my knees
With a hammer in my hand
You look at me, arms open
Forgiven! Forgiven!
Child there is freedom from all of it
Say goodbye, to every sin
You are Forgiven!
I’ve done things I wish I hadn’t done
I’ve seen things I wish I hadn’t seen
Just the thought of Your amazing grace
And I cry “Jesus forgive me!”
God I fall down to my knees
With a hammer in my hand
You look at me, arms open
Forgiven! Forgiven!
Child there is freedom from all of it
Say goodbye, to every sin
You are Forgiven!
I could’ve been six feet under
I could’ve been lost forever
Yeah I should be in that fire
But now there’s fire inside of me
Here I am a dead man walking
No grave gonna hold God’s people
All the weight of our evil
Lifted away forever free
Who could believe? Who could believe?
God I fall down to my knees
With a hammer in my hand
You look at me, arms open
Forgiven! Forgiven!
You love me even when I don’t deserve It
Forgiven! Forgiven!
Jesus your blood makes me innocent
So I will say goodbye to every sin
I am forgiven!
To think that after all my wrong doings Jesus still has, like the song says, “arms open” for us. 1 John 1:9 states “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us all from unrighteousness.” The thing about forgiveness though is that not only does Jesus promise to forgive us but He expects us to forgive just as much as He does.
No where in the bible does it say it will be easy, and if it does then please show me! But we can’t forget the ultimate sacrifice He did for us to forgive us for everything we’ve done. One last thing I want to leave you with is in Ephesians 4:32 which says “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.”
I’ve personally had to dig deep about who and what I haven’t forgiven, including unforgiveness towards myself. Is there anything holding you back? Unforgiveness is from the enemy and will hold you back towards knowing and loving Christ.
